Excitement Mounts in Diocese for Papal Visit

Invitation to Papal Event Arrives

One of the nuns at the Monastery of the Visitation at Waldron, East Sussex, is off to meet the Pope. Sister Paul Miryam (pictured right), aged 83, has just received her officialinvitation to see the Holy Father in London when he comes to this country in September.

Two days before the visit, she will celebrate her Silver Jubilee as a nun. She entered the Monastery, which belongs to the Roman Catholic Order of the Visitation, when she was 58.

She married an insurance broker when she was in her twenties and has three daughters. She used to be a nurse. But took early retirement and decided to become a nun.

The Monastery is also celebrating 400 years since the foundation of the Order in Annecy, France in 1610.

Thousand of other people from the Diocese, Priests, Deacons, Religious and Laity including young people and school children are also gearing up for the Papal Visit. School children will be greeting him at St Mary's University College, Twickenham on Friday morning 17th September, young people in the Piazza in front of Westminster Cathedral, London on Saturday morning 18th September, and over two thousand parishioners in Hyde Park, London on Saturday afternoon 18th September and several hundreds who are making the long journey to Birmingham at the Mass of Beatification on Sunday 19th September.
