Pope’s Representative in Great Britain comes to the Diocese
Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Faustino Sainz Munoz[1], Pope Benedict’s representative in Great Britain[2], visits St Wilfrid’s Catholic School, Crawley on Tuesday 20th May at 3.30pm in the afternoon to see the progress of the building works for the new school and bless the new building.
The Archbishop will meet some of the staff, students and governors of the school together with the five local primary school heads as well as touring the site of this brand new school building.
This visit is part of a three day tour of the Diocese. In a busy schedule the Archbishop is also planning to meet with the Priests and Deacons of the Diocese at a gathering in Epsom, the Heads of Secondary Schools and their Heads of Religious Education, the Diocesan Pastoral team at DABCEC, Crawley, the Monastic communities at Parkminster, near Cowfold, Worth Abbey, near Crawley and Crossbush, near Arundel before finally leading the celebrations at the Carpet of Flowers and Eucharistic Procession in Arundel.
[1]Archbishop Faustino was born in Spain 5 June 1937. He studied Law in Madrid, Theology in Salamanca and Canon Law in Rome. He was ordained a Priest in 1963. He was a Parish Priest and teacher both entering the Papal Diplomatic service in 1970. He has worked previously as a diplomat in West Africa, Denmark, Rome, Cuba, the Congo and Brussels. He has been Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain since 2005. He speaks several languages including English.
[1]He is an accredited Ambassador from the Holy See (Vatican) to the British Government but his geographical remit extends to England, Wales and Scotland only and not Northern Ireland. The Papal Nuncio in Dublin is responsible for Northern Ireland. He is responsible not only for relations between the British Government and the Vatican but also in acting as the personal representative of the Pope to the Roman Catholic Church in Great Britain.
