Congratulations to Rev Gerard Hatton who was ordained by Bishiop Kieran Conry to the diaconate on Saturday 26th June at St Johns Seminary. The ordination mass was a beautful and happy occassion for Gerard, the staff and seminarians at St Johns, and his family and friends. Gerard will serve as a deacon at Christ the Prince of Peace parish in Weybridge where he has just finished an extended pastoral placement. We look forward to his ordination to the priesthood in the near future and a joyful future of serving the church in ordained ministry.
Invocation 2010 was a festival for young Catholic adults gathered to deepen their faith and hear God's call. They were offered advice, workshops, and time for prayer by the priests, religious sisters and brothers, nuns and monks who attended the event. In total around 400 people attended, over 100 of these were young people. Oscott College hosted the event, and will also be welcoming Pope Benedict XVI in September. Keynote speakers were Archbishop Vincent Nichols, Fr Christopher Jamison, Dr Andrew O'Connell, and Sr Gabriel Davison. A good number attended from our diocese. Samuel Groups
are a series of monthly evening gatherings that support
young adults (17 - 30) in discerning their direction in life, whether this is to marriage or single life, to priesthood or religious life. It would also suit those who are making decisions about volunteering gap-year, careers or further study. The evening gatherings (once a month) will be experiences of praying with Scripture and reflecting with other young adults who are on a similar journey. Belonging to the group requires a serious level of commitment. Between monthly sessions, participants will also have the opportunity to meet with a skilled spiritual director who to accompany them in their spiritual journey. From October 2010 groups will be meeting in Crawley (1st Tuesdays of the month) Woking (First Thursday) and hopefully two other locations. Further details will soon be available.
