Befriending the Bereaved

STC Day of Reflection Aug'08

Tuesday August 19th 2008

10.00 am (for a 10.30am start) - 4.30 p.m.

at The Garden Room, St Cuthman’s

led by Norma Nunn

What is a Befriender? Someone who will become a friend to someone recently bereaved and allow them to talk through their experience of being bereaved. You may have been asked by your
Parish Priest to visit a bereaved person or you may just wish to understand the process of bereavement and to offer friendship and a listening ear to someone you know who has been bereaved.
The aim of the day will be a greater understanding of the stages of grief and how to offer ‘helpful’ friendship to bereaved people. We will look at the process of grief and how this affects the bereaved person, explore attitudes towards bereavement and death generally and our Christian response to this. There will be time for prayer and reflection.
This day will not be suitable for anyone recently bereaved.
Norma Nunn has a Certificate in Counselling Skills from the Haley College and is qualified to teach adults. She has run many courses through Adult Education and privately, and facilitated groups over 15 years. Norma is the Bookings Secretary at St Cuthman’s.

The cost for the day is £25 which includes all Refreshments, a Light Lunch and Afternoon Tea with Homemade Cake.
