Tuesday 4th November 2008 Leader: Rev'd Richard Harlow 10.00 am (for a 10.30am start) - 4.30 p.m. The Garden Room, St Cuthman’s Jesus said "whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." Christians have headed his words, and always been involved in the work of caring for the sick, imprisoned, homeless and disabled. But such caring comes at a price in our fragmented society, and carers often suffer fatigue, loneliness and disillusion. This day aims to renew and encourage carers, whether officially qualified or not, whether paid or voluntary, for their challenging and ultimately rewarding ministry. It will face the realities of caring, and consider: - What are the human needs of carers? How can we avoid burnout?
- What are reasonable boundaries and limits to our caring? When does God say "No"?
- Where, when and how do we meet God as a carer?
Richard Harlow is an Anglican priest and has been hospital chaplain in Haywards Heath for 6 years. He has particular interests in mental health care and palliative care. He has experienced as a carer both in his professional and personal life. The cost for the day is £25 which includes all Refreshments, a Light Lunch and Afternoon Tea with Homemade Cake.
