'Quiet Days' at St Cuthman's for Individuals

"I find it difficult to take time out for myself, so this was an ideal opportunity to spend time at an oasis of calm and love, and very good value. I shall commend St Cuthman’s to my friends and assure them of the warm welcome they will receive." (from a recent 'Quiet Day' guest)

Quiet Day at St Cuthmans

Not everyone can find the time to get away on a residential Retreat. Perhaps you could manage a day if you had somewhere to go. Why not come and spend a ‘Quiet Day’ at St. Cuthman’s?

St Cuthman's from the lake

We now accept bookings in the main Retreat House from day guests. Day guests are welcome to arrive either in time to join us for our Morning Prayer at 9.15 am, or after Morning Prayer at 10 am, and stay until 5pm.

You will have access to the Halll, Drawing Room, Library, extensive grounds and simple Chapel.(For more views of St Cuthman's click here)

An experienced spiritual director ...

or simply a listening ear, can usually be arranged for individuals with sufficient notice.

St Cuthman's Chapel

Morning coffee, a Two Course Lunch and Afternoon Tea are included in the £25 charge. Lunch can be eaten in silence, or in company. A great place to slow down, think, and pray.

St Cuthman's Summerhouse & garden

Due to bookings from residential guests, and with limited space in the house, there will be a maximum number of day guests which can be accommodated on any particular day, and days on which it will not be possible to take day guests.

For ideas on how to use your time on retreat see the Resources pages of the Retreat Association website

Given that these are intended to be Quiet Retreat Days, we would ask guests not to bring 'work' with them, other than perhaps reading matter, as there are no suitable public areas for this (i.e. for using laptops etc).

Please contact us for more details or to make a provisional booking, after which please download a 'Quiet Day' Booking Form and Notes here.

The following article appeared recently in our diocesan newspaper, the A&B News…

A BIT OF PEACE AND QUIET…..

In our busy and noisy world many of us long for a bit of peace and quiet.Somewhere we can hear ourselves think and slow down from all the hustle and bustle of daily living.St Cuthman’s Retreat Centre is now able to welcome guests for ‘Quiet Days’, thereby creating the opportunity for people who are time poor to be still, slow down, and spend some time in prayer.

A number of people have already responded and have told us how much they valued their time here. As well as enjoying the benefits of our well stocked library, or sitting by the log fires, now that the Spring weather is here day guests have had the opportunity to enjoy a gentle walk through the varied grounds. To sit by the lake and watch the ducks, to listen to the buzzing of the bees and bleating of sheep is a great way to unwind.

Guests may arrive in time for Morning Prayer, attend Mass (when available), or just sit in the quiet of the Chapel. There is no set programme and guests are free to use their time as they wish and we make sure everyone is well fed – with Morning Coffee, a wholesome two course Lunch in the company of others, or enjoyed in silence, and at the end of the afternoon Homemade Cake and a cup of tea. What a great way to restore your batteries!

If you think you would like to give someone such a gift – to mark a special birthday or anniversary, or to say thank you – or if you would like to treat yourself – please give us a call on 01403 741220.When the house is full there are limited spaces for Day Guests so get in touch now, before we get too busy.We feel sure you will find it is time well spent.
