Communications - Introduction
The Communications Office in this diocese is part of the Diocesan Curia. It is part of the pastoral work of the diocese under the direction of the Episcopal Vicar for Pastoral Affairs. The work is carried out by the Communications Officer who is supported by a Priest Adviser and a Communications Commission.
The Communications Officer acts as the Bishop’s Spokesperson and is responsible overall for internal diocesan communications as well as external communications with the media and others. Communications includes both print and electronic media.

The role of the Diocesan Communications Officer is to facilitate and encourage effective communications into, out from, and around the diocese. This includes acting as a contact for media enquiries, and making information and statements available to the media, both responsively and proactively.
Underpinning the above is the planning and the use of electronic media and methods for the storage, processing and transmission of information.
The Diocesan Communications Officer is supported by a Communication Commission. The members of the Commission are Mgr Tony Barry, Fr Chris Bergin, Mr Harry Robertson, Mrs Caroline Farrow and Deacon Mark Woods. Further members are to be appointed.
Links to the Bishop
The Episcopal Vicar for Pastoral Affairs and/or the Communications Officer meets with the Bishop as often as required. The Bishop also attends the Communications Commission from time to time.
