Update on Diocesan Refugee Crisis Response
A ‘Ways You Can Help Database Form’ is being used to collate information from parishes and individuals and can be found on our website alongside reports and resources from last month’s Annual Justice and Peace Assembly.
The diocese has received over £50,000 in donations from schools, parishes and individuals. Donations continue to pour in. Families are now entering the diocese through the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Relocation Programme and this programme will see a significant increase in arrivals across Sussex and Surrey in 2016.
Thanks to the generosity of so many we are now able to seriously pursue supporting local projects that will provide support for destitute asylum seekers, refugees and those with no recourse to public funds and potentially no income source from the Home Office or local authorities. Brighton Voices in Exile are establishing joint initiatives with another Charity to offer a range of residential accommodation and direct access to services. We hope to have more concrete details about community projects like this one that represent an exciting missionary outreach to refugees soon.
